Our greatest climate impact is primarily linked to the use of materials in our construction projects and our energy consumption. To reduce our emissions, we focus heavily on reducing resource use during renovations and improving energy efficiency. Equally important are measures such as improving waste management, implementing demand-controlled ventilation and lighting, and investing in solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations.
What are our sustainability targets to minimise our footprint?
- Achieve a specific energy use of 70 kWh/Atemp across the portfolio by 2030.
- Reach a minimum 70% waste sorting rate by 2030 from tenants and ongoing operations.
- Property management shall be climate neutral 2025.
- CO2e emissions from construction operations shall be halved by 2030.

Reducing energy consumption in our properties is an ongoing effort that includes both operational optimisation and investments in energy-efficient technology. Our goal is to reach a specific energy use of 70 kWh/Atemp across our portfolio by 2030. Energy usage in our properties is continuously monitored to identify opportunities for operational and maintenance improvements.

To reduce the climate impact of our projects, we need to think more circularly and prioritise reuse. We strive to build “correct” from the start, with a long-term and flexible approach. This allows us to avoid unnecessary changes or major interventions in the future, thereby reducing waste.

Increasing waste recycling is a top sustainability priority for both Hufvudstaden and our tenants. We actively work to reduce, recycle, and reuse waste in both our buildings and our construction projects. Hufvudstaden aims to reduce the total amount of waste and increase the sorting rate in our properties and projects. As much of the waste as possible should be recycled or reused.
