Framework for our sustainability work
Hufvudstaden’s sustainability efforts are based on both internal policies and external frameworks. Our values, policies, and guidelines – including our Code of Conduct, sustainability plan, and sustainability policy – provide a clear direction for how we conduct responsible business.
The work is also based on international principles, such as the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Governance of sustainability work
The Sustainability Department is responsible for driving and developing our sustainability agenda together with the rest of the organisation. The department is led by the Head of Sustainability, who has overall responsibility for the company’s sustainability issues, setting the targets, and steering efforts toward them. The Head of Sustainability reports regularly to the Executive Management Team.
The Board of Directors oversees the sustainability work and is continuously updated on its progress. The Board also reviews and approves the Annual and Sustainability Report. The CEO has overall responsibility for the outcomes of the sustainability efforts and reports to the Board.
The Executive Management Team decides on the overarching sustainability strategy and goals. A Sustainability Council, made up of the Head of Sustainability and representatives from various departments – including three members of the executive team – manages progress toward the targets and prepares matters for decision.
To ensure sustainability is incorporated in the organisation, employees have been trained on the company’s sustainability plan and are continuously informed about the ongoing work in various forums. To further increase engagement, each department has developed its own sustainability goals, which are reviewed quarterly in Hufvudstaden’s Sustainability Council, composed of representatives from all units.
