The inauguration was attended by Lars Strömgren, Vice Mayor for Traffic of the City of Stockholm, Gunilla Glantz, Traffic Director at the City of Stockholm, Theodor Bratt, Traffic Planner at the City of Stockholm, Frida Wijkström, Head of Stockholm Region at Hufvudstaden, and Mattias Blomqvist, Project Manager at Nyab.
“Stockholm should be a green and vibrant city where walking is easy and accessible. We have now made the streets in Bibliotekstan even more inviting and connected them into a cohesive pedestrian route. This is a good example of a successful collaboration between the City, property owners and contractor,” says Lars Strömgren, Vice Mayor for Traffic of the City of Stockholm.
Jakobsbergsgatan and Mäster Samuelsgatan now feature smoother pedestrian surfaces without changes in level, making pedestrian priority more clearly defined while creating a more accessible and pleasant street environment. The paving, including Swedish granite, connects with the surrounding streets and building façades and is complemented by new benches and additional planters. By introducing more greenery, the area becomes more vibrant. In this way, the street environment is strengthened as a place for both movement and meeting.
The project also includes expanded ground heating and improved stormwater management. Throughout the construction period, all construction machinery was electrically powered, helping to reduce both emissions and noise.
Construction began in August 2025 and was carried out in collaboration with the City of Stockholm, Alecta Fastigheter, Vasakronan, Nordstjernan, SEB Trygg Liv and Hufvudstaden.
“For Hufvudstaden, it is important to contribute to the development of both our properties and the surrounding environment. The new street environment makes Bibliotekstan more accessible and welcoming and contributes to the continued development and attractiveness of the area,” says Frida Wijkström, Head of Stockholm Region at Hufvudstaden.
